Earthquake Scientist's Warning  About Italian Earthquake Silenced, Ignored

High Cost of Repressing, Hiding The Truth

Reuters:  Scientist who predicted an earthquake would hit L"Aquila. central Italy, 100 km or 60 miles from Rome, was muzzled by government authorities last month for "spreading panic," He was then no longer able to warn the population so it could prepare for the earthquake.

The government and the mayor on Monday insisted the warning by seismologist Giacchino Giuliani had "no scientific foundation".  He based his forecast on concentrations of radon gas around seismically active areas.  The government reported him to police for "spreading alarm" and forced him to remove his findings from the internet.

The same horrific suppression of truth has gone on in the Catholic Church where reports of sex abuse of children, youths, seminarians was silenced and ignored for decades.  Even in the Legion of Christ case where founder Fr Marciel Maciel Dellagodo abused schoolboys, youths and seminarians for decades : it was reported directly to Pope John Paul II in 1978, 1989 and again in 1995, and the reports were suppressed and ignored.

The terrible price of suppressing and ignoring the truth.  Ordain women and married people and bring accountability, community and balance to the clergy of the Catholic church.  Let the truth shine of how Jesus made women full Apostles too and never excluded or shunned or silenced the women. Truth.

I was researching medieval society, pastimes, sports, religion for school when I came across a photo in a book about by Compton Reeves, Pleasures and Pastimes in Medieval England that showed a fantastic gold rosary from 15th century.  It has 50 gold beads with black enamel and carvings of two saints on each bead, inscriptions describing each on the beads,  with 6 lozenge size beads and one larger knop bead, that  largest one has Virgin Mary and baby Jesus on it.

You can view it in many views on Victoria and Albert museum  website of United Kingdom
www. collections.vam.ac.uk/objectid/017851.  It is the only medieval rosary to survive the Reformation.  The Langdale descendants had it from 17th century to 1934 when the museum was given it to acquire.  It was likely William Howard's 3rd son of Duke of Norfolk, Langdale ancestor. He was beheaded in 1572. Fun time to be alive, yikes.  It is Paternoster M30-1934.  Langdale Rosary.  Really beautiful and rare. At the end of the study, we made medieval food. Spicy and good.  Lots of great on-line recipes , easy to make and super!

I wish they sold an affordable replica of that rosary, maybe they did. It's great. So much was destroyed and is still  being destroyed when different factions fight for power.  Just a few years back the magnificant giant Buddha sculptures in many countries that were thousands of years old were blown up with dynomite. Sad what we keep doing to each other in the name of "religion".    Great website that you have here!   Rebecca

Sigh.  So true.
The Langdale Rosary is indeed lovely, but it is not my personal favorite.
My personal favorites are the rosaries one has made oneself with much thought and devotion, in deliberate defiance of the destruction and despair of this earth, as an inspiration and prayer for a better world.

My all-time-favorite rosary hangs in a small museum in the small town of Stevenson, Washington, USA.  Created in defiance of the destruction and despair of WWI, it was built entirely out of the rubble of war (shell casings/spent bullets) in 1915 and is part of the Don Brown Rosary Collection there:
http://www.columbiagorge.org/don-brown-rosary-collection.html (museum website)

You can create your own version of the Langdale Rosary if you like.  You too can create a beautiful meaningful rosary in defiance of the destruction and despair of this earth with which to inspire yourself and those around you.  It really isn't difficult.
All you need are safety glasses (must wear while clipping wire, tiny bits of wire can go flying when snipped!), small wire snips, small needle nose pliers, a small nail (mandrel) to wrap your wire around to give you nice round even loops, a bit of wire, and a few beads (available at any bead shop, generally along with good free advice!)... you can do it!

http://www.rosaryworkshop.com/4000Rosaries.htm (a commercial site that sells rosary making supplies, but it will give you a basic idea of what sorts of things are commercially available if you are hoping to recreate or design an antique pattern. It has some photos & descriptions of rosaries from the Don Brown Collection for inspiration)

It is a wonderful meditation to design and put together a rosary.  In doing so, one discovers what saints, what issues, what beads/stones/colors/textures/patterns best reflect and express one's unique sense of spirituality.  They also make wonderful and very personal gifts and commemorations of life events.

Thanks for the information about the rosaries and it's history, and how to make them personal expressions of spirituality.  Thank you very much.  We owe other cultures for the bead praying idea, India, China, Arabia, Africa.  People of the west also came up with their own prayer systems too.  We are all one in God, all of us. Cross-cultural sharing, trade, travel and pigrimages led to our rosary devotion creation.  We are all part of God's family.  The more I learn, the more I want to know.  Great!

It goes to show that the Pope has not got a case for not letting women be priests because he has to resort to trying to stop all discussion about it.  Not being allowed to talk about it shows he has no reason to stop women from being ordained.  Now there is a visit to the nuns of America to stop them from trying to discuss issues about women and the Catholic church.

Again the Pope is acting wrong .  He is supposed to be the vicar of Christ yet he is so unlike Jesus.  Jesus wanted people to talk, to learn, to argue and make requests of him and God. Jesus had praise for women who argued, talked with him  and discussed church topics with him.  Jesus saught out women to talk to them too.  The Pope mostly avoids and ignores women.  He barely ever visits  with nuns and rarely ever talks or associates with women, consecrated or laity. He divides  the church and makes disunity by excommunicating mostly women.  The most heinous priest repeat child predators do not get excommunicated, but lots of nuns and women end up getting excommunicated for  women and the church.

The Catholic seminaries and universities are becoming unintellectual , sad shells of themselves, lacking  religious, intellectual rigour and integrity,  lacking religious inquiry and lacking religious freedom due to the mind numbing  and spirit numbing repression of Benedict XVI.  Our Archbishop told the press he got his promotion to the position because "he never asks questions". "he does what he is told."  Part of that blind lack of integrity on the archbishop's part was to agree  when he was bishop to silencing priest pedophile victims and covering-up the sex abuse of the priest pedophiles.  Those orders came from the Vatican.

Our Archbishop told the press he got his promotion to the position because "he never asks questions". "he does what he is told."

The Roman Catholic Church is not a democracy.   It is structurally a human, imperial Roman, authoritarian political systemfrom its concept of what constitutes functional hierarchy on down to its concept of what constitutes functional community, family, and interpersonal relationship.  In order to be promoted within such a system it is vital to salute and to promote the concept of "Hail Caesar."  It has been this way since Constantianian, and women hold no position of authority whatsoever within this political system.

For 2000 years the Church has considered the Roman Imperial model an adequate societal model in spite of the fact that Rome collapsed because its exclusively-male-dominant imperial model could not hold nations, communities, families,  relationships between human beings, nor relationships between human beings and God together.
After 2 world wars, on the precarious brink of a third, and in the middle of economic upheaval and obscene wealth built on horrendous slavery created by exclusively male dominated empire building systems, we observe just how disfunctional the exclusively-male-dominant imperial model is.  Can the hierarchy read the writing on the wall and demonstrate in the name of Christ that healthy relationship between human beings is based on negotiation rather than on the dominance of one gender, party, group, church, empire or nation over another? So far it doesn't look at all promising.

Betsy How did you discern the call to become a Catholic and then you went on to teach others to be Catholic.  That is great!  What made you know that this was the denomination for you?  I stay Catholic, though I know it needs much fixing.  I love the faith very much. It has a great hold on me.  Yet it gets frustrating how Catholic structure rejects women so much. My family is so fed up with the abuses the hierarchy does , they will not go back to it.  Is that the case with your family too?    Welcome.  This is a beautiful and loving website to the Catholic faith that longs to help it change for the better.  Janet

This book by Jesuit theologian and university professor Jerome Baggett is highly recommended. He interviewed many Catholics.  It is a comprehensive and wise book, very helpful to our Roman Catholic Church. It is called Sense of the Faithful.

All human beings on this earth are the children of God.  They are your brothers and sisters.  They are a part of you no less than your own life, your own breath, your own health.  To hate any one of them is to throw away your own life, your own breath, your own health.
The energy you put forth in the universe is the energy you eventually get back from the universe.  The knife in your hand eventually becomes the knife in your own back.  What you seek to destroy.... is yourself.  I am so terribly sorry.

Is the pope trying to shrink the Catholic church down to just be made up of 3 sects/cults/groups, Society of Pius X , Legion of Christ and Opus Dei?  He's gone super conservative, like he's rejecting the rest of the Catholics.  He seems to also to be just interested in whoever is wealthy.  Resemblance to Jesus ? : hmmm, nope.  Excommunicated unless one is in one of these groups/sects/cults is the direction the RCC seems to be going!  "The shipwrecked boat of the 'Peter" BXVI barge!"

It is awful that PBXVI is trying to make a saint out of anti-semite Pius XII, who did not help the Jews and let them be murdered in the Holocaust before and during WWII.  PBXVI will not enter the Holocaust museum in Israel because the museum correctly states  about the apathy and wrong-doing of Pius XII pope.  Will PBXVI deny the wrongs of Legion of Christ leader too, and paint that monster as a ""saint """ too?  Disgusting.

On this day that we honor our mothers it is important to remember that motherhood isn’t just in the biology. It is so much more.

Motherhood is in a heart bursting with love. We experience the love of God through a good mother. They are the source of encouragement, protection, shelter, nurturance, and acceptance. They teach us to be strong and self-reliant. They provide us with a moral foundation and direction. They give us hope in a time of despair. They give us courage when we are afraid. They make personal sacrifices for the good of all. They give us the freedom to find our way but they always welcome us home with open arms. A mother’s love is the closest experience we will ever have to touching the face of God.

God bless all the women who embrace and practice the spirit of motherhood in their daily lives. The world is so much richer because of them.

In a world so torn apart by rivalry, anger, and hatred, we have the privileged vocation to be living signs of a love that can bridge all divisions and heal all wounds.

I am here, because I read an article today titled "Pope calls for rejection of prejudice." And I thought "Clearly, not of women."

I wondered, what is the Catholic doctrine on which the disqualification of women for ordination rests?

So, I'm looking for that.
